Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen is preparing to launch the second generation of its high-performance compact SUV, the T-Roc R, in the fall of 2027. The new model will feature enhanced power and advanced technologies. It will be equipped with a 2.0 TSI engine producing 328 horsepower, borrowed from the Golf R.
The new model is scheduled to hit the European market in late 2027 to compete strongly in the compact SUV category.
Performance and platform updates
The most significant change lies in the underlying architecture. The new T-Roc R will be based on the MQB Evo platform, the same platform used in the Passat, Tiguan, and Golf. This transition has already yielded tangible performance improvements:
Drivetrain: The 2.0-liter engine will be equipped with mild hybrid technology to ensure compliance with the stringent Euro 7 emissions standards. This is while maintaining the same high power levels.
Transmission and all-wheel drive: The range will be equipped with a 7-speed DSG transmission. It will be supported by the company’s latest all-wheel-drive system and a Haldex multi-disc clutch.
Improved traction: The MQB Evo platform ensures a wider track, providing better grip, especially when combined with all-wheel drive. The T-Roc R is also expected to borrow components from the Golf GTI Edition 50, such as stiffer springs.
Additional options: The Akrapovic quad-pipe exhaust system will be available as an optional feature.
Bolder design and exclusive interior fittings
To emphasize its sporty character, the T-Roc R will receive notable design updates:
Exterior appearance: The car will be equipped with massive 20-inch wheels. These come with 245mm tires, 30mm wider than the previous generation. Initial images reveal bolder bumpers that are distinctly different from the less aggressive R-Line model. This has been confirmed by Stefan Wahlberg, head of exterior design at Volkswagen.
Interior: Volkswagen has promised exclusive features for the R version. These include separate digital graphics, a new steering wheel, and specially designed sports seats to differentiate it from the standard versions.
Production of the new Volkswagen T-Roc R is scheduled to begin in October 2027, with the first deliveries in Europe to follow shortly thereafter.
