Beirut, Lebanon – The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon issued an urgent warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in the country and called for an immediate ceasefire. She warned that continued escalation would lead to an unprecedented increase in casualties. Furthermore, this escalation threatens the stability of the areas most affected by the conflict.
The UN official stated that the recent clashes have caused a significant increase in internal displacement, with a rapid deterioration in basic services such as healthcare, water, electricity, and education. This is exacerbating the suffering of civilians, especially children, women, and the elderly, and making daily life almost impossible in some areas.
She added that the ongoing fighting is hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected areas and further exacerbating poverty and hunger. In addition, it is placing thousands of families in immediate danger, and she called on all parties to guarantee safe passage for aid. She also called for humanitarian organizations to be allowed to operate without restrictions.
The UN warned that any delay in implementing a ceasefire could further worsen the crisis, with repercussions for regional security and stability. She called on the international community to unite efforts to support Lebanon and help the government and relevant authorities protect civilians and reduce human losses.
