Rome, Italy – Italy’s southern Mediterranean coast witnessed a new humanitarian tragedy after an illegal immigration boat carrying a group of migrants capsized.

This resulted in the death of one person and the rescue of 11 others from drowning, while the search continues for possible missing persons.

Italian authorities reported that the boat capsized in bad sea conditions near the Calabria region.

Noting that rescue teams moved immediately after receiving a report from a commercial vessel that spotted the accident.

According to initial reports, the migrants were trying to reach European shores on a perilous journey from North Africa,

As part of a growing wave of irregular migration attempts across the Mediterranean.

The Italian Coast Guard confirmed that efforts are still ongoing to find survivors or other bodies.

While the survivors were transferred to a medical center to receive the necessary care,

The incident is subject to a comprehensive investigation to determine its circumstances and the boat’s path before it sank.

This incident comes at a time when warnings are escalating about the increasing number of migrant boats departing from the Libyan and Tunisian coasts.

Amidst the difficult humanitarian conditions experienced by migrants, and the great pressure on the countries of southern Europe,

Which has become the first line of confrontation with the illegal immigration crisis.
