Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump declared Tuesday a “deadline” for Iran, as pressure mounted to push Tehran toward an agreement. He asserted that the negotiations had shown signs of “good faith” action.
Trump stated that Iranian negotiators had become more reasonable, indicating that a solution could end the conflict quickly. He added that this was possible if Tehran took what he termed “the necessary steps.”
Nuclear weapons ban…and threats of escalation
The US president stressed that the United States would not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon. He asserted that the core of the conflict revolved around this objective, and that any agreement must guarantee its full realization.
Trump threatened military escalation should Iran refuse to comply. He stated that “they will have no power plants or bridges left” if an agreement was not reached. He clarified that this was a reference to continued strikes and targeting of infrastructure.
Continuation of military operations
The US president affirmed that military operations are continuing with full force, noting that the current situation would have been far more complicated had it not been for the killing of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
Trump asserted that the recent strikes inflicted significant damage on the Iranian regime. He also pointed out that he had used strong language in his recent statements to deliver a clear message, which he affirmed “has been received.”
These statements come amidst ongoing escalation in the region, occurring against a backdrop of intensive diplomatic efforts and international endeavors to reach a ceasefire and prevent a wider confrontation.
