Aden, Yemen – The internationally recognized Yemeni government reiterated its categorical rejection and strong condemnation of the Iranian regime’s repeated attempts and systematic policies to drag Yemen and its people into “futile wars” that do not serve its national interests. In an official statement carried by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the government affirmed that Tehran continues to use its terrorist militias to undermine nation-states. It also seeks to usurp Yemen’s sovereign decision-making and transform its territory into a platform for blackmail and threats to international peace and security.
Organic link to a subversive project
The statement explained that the new round of escalation in which the Houthi militias have engaged is reproducing the “disastrous model” witnessed in other countries in the region. In this model, outlawed armed groups usurp the decision-making power regarding war and peace. They also embroil their homelands in destructive confrontations to serve the expansionist agenda of the Iranian regime. The government considered the Houthis’ joining the defense of Tehran in the current war to be nothing more than a “desperate” attempt to alleviate the increasing military and political pressure on the rogue regime by opening additional fronts. This provides further evidence of the organic link between these militias and the Iranian project.
Disastrous repercussions for national security and livelihoods
The government warned of the grave repercussions of these “reckless adventures,” foremost among them the exposure of national security to serious risks that threaten the country’s sovereignty and the well-being of the Yemeni people. The statement indicated that this escalation will inevitably exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation and disrupt supply chains. This will lead to a dramatic surge in food and energy prices in a country suffering from one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The government emphasized that “the decision of war and peace is the exclusive sovereign right of the Yemeni state and its constitutional institutions,” and that any military actions carried out outside this framework constitute illegitimate acts of aggression. It also held the militias and their supporters fully responsible for the legal and criminal consequences.
A call to the people and an international demand for decisive action
In a direct appeal, the government called on the Yemeni people in all governorates, particularly those under militia control, to reject destructive policies and not to be drawn into calls for mobilization and recruitment. It urged citizens not to allow their sons to become “fuel for others’ wars” or to be used as human shields in battles that do not serve Yemen’s future. The government concluded its statement by calling on the international community to take a firm stance against Iran’s repeated violations of Yemeni sovereignty and to exert maximum pressure on the Houthi terrorist militias.
It also called for support for the legitimate government’s efforts to restore state institutions and extend its authority over all national territory. It asserted that this is the only way to achieve the Yemeni people’s aspirations for security, stability, and lasting peace.
