Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry denied on Monday the existence of any direct dialogue or negotiations with Washington. It described US President Donald Trump’s remarks about “productive talks” as merely an attempt to lower global energy prices. Furthermore, it viewed them as a stalling tactic to advance his military plans. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, through official media outlets, confirmed that Tehran had received “initiatives” from regional countries to de-escalate tensions. It indicated that its response was clear: Washington started the war and therefore must bear the responsibility.
This categorical denial comes hours after Trump announced via Truth Social that he was postponing military strikes against Iranian energy facilities for five days. He cited the “tone and substance” of positive discussions held earlier in the week as the reason for the postponement. Trump had previously threatened to “obliterate” Iranian power plants by Monday evening if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened. However, the conflicting accounts from Washington and Tehran have left the region in a state of uneasy truce, shrouded in uncertainty. Everyone is waiting to see what the next five days will bring.
