Aden, Yemen – The Southern Transitional Council (STC) officially welcomed the decision by the US State Department to designate the Sudanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. In a statement, the STC considered this move a fundamental step and a significant blow to extremist organizations that thrive on chaos. Moreover, it comes within the framework of international efforts to confront transnational entities. These entities have become a real threat to the stability of nations and the security of their societies.
Decision dimensions and regional security
In a press statement, Anwar al-Tamimi, the official spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, affirmed that the nature of the Muslim Brotherhood as an international, octopus-like entity extending across several countries makes any legal or political action taken against it or any of its branches a matter that transcends the internal framework of individual states. Furthermore, al-Tamimi explained that this designation is a matter directly related to regional and international security and stability. This is given the organization’s subversive and inflammatory activities aimed at undermining national state institutions.
“Yemeni Brotherhood” in the spotlight
Based on a unified stance against terrorism, the Council not only welcomed the decision concerning Sudan but also called on the international community and the United States to expand these stringent measures. These measures should include the remaining branches of the organization in the region.
In its statement, the Southern Transitional Council emphasized that the organization’s branch in Yemen (the Islah Party) is among the most active and negatively influential branches of the Muslim Brotherhood. It also warned that its continued activity poses a grave threat to peace and stability efforts in the South. In addition, it threatens the entire region.
A secure future for the people
The statement emphasized that combating extremism necessitates seriously addressing this branch and subjecting it to international sanctions. This is given its role as an umbrella organization providing fertile ground for numerous other extremist groups.
This stance comes at a time when the Transitional Council is seeking to strengthen its partnership with international powers in the fight against terrorism. It also affirmed that cutting off the funding and ideological support for the Muslim Brotherhood is the only way to guarantee a secure future for the region’s people. In this way, people can have a future free from the conflicts of extremist ideologies.
