Tehran, Iran – A spokesperson for Iran’s Guardian Council announced that the constitution mandates the Assembly of Experts to elect the country’s new Supreme Leader following the assassination of Ali Khamenei. He affirmed that the country will proceed according to the established constitutional framework without any power vacuum. The spokesperson explained that during the transitional period, until the Assembly of Experts convenes and elects a new leader, a temporary leadership council will manage the affairs of state. This measure aims to ensure institutional continuity and prevent any disruption to governance during this delicate and sensitive period.
In the same vein, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made striking remarks in a television interview. He confirmed Khamenei’s assassination and issued a direct warning to both the United States and Israel, saying, “You have broken the hearts of the Iranian people, and we will break yours.” Larijani added that the enemies had come to realize that achieving their objectives against Iran was impossible under Khamenei’s leadership. Therefore, this led them to decide to target and eliminate him first, thus paving the way for their plans.
Larijani revealed that a temporary leadership council will be formed as soon as possible, in accordance with the Iranian constitution. Its members will include the president, the head of the judiciary, and a member of the Guardian Council, chosen by the Expediency Discernment Council. He indicated that these procedures will be completed swiftly to ensure the smooth functioning of state institutions. International observers and analysts are closely watching the implications of this radical shift in the Iranian political landscape. This comes amidst escalating regional tensions and mutual threats between Tehran and its adversaries.
