Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced “good progress” during the third round of talks with the United States in Geneva. He indicated that the discussions focused on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran. The two sides agreed to hold a fourth round of talks in less than a week.
Preparing technical studies for the International Atomic Energy Agency
Araghchi confirmed that technical teams will begin technical studies at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters in Vienna next Monday. They will conduct these studies with the assistance of IAEA experts to verify aspects of the agreement related to Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
Oman’s mediation and monitoring of progress
The Sultanate of Oman, which is leading the mediation efforts, stated that the third round of talks resulted in “significant progress.” It indicated that the next step would be technical discussions in Vienna next week to implement what had been agreed upon.
American pressure and ongoing threats
In contrast, President Donald Trump gave Iran 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement. He also warned of “bad consequences” if an agreement is not reached. Similarly, US Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized that American threats should be taken seriously.
Limiting Iran’s nuclear program and preserving regional peace
Washington insists that any potential agreement must prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. It also expresses its desire to restrict Iran’s ballistic missile activities and its regional influence. Iran, for its part, consistently denies seeking to develop a nuclear weapon and affirms its right to a nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
