Aden, Yemen – Hani bin Breik, Vice President of the Southern Transitional Council, launched a sharp and unprecedented attack on Saudi policy in southern Yemen. He warned that “whoever confronts the people will inevitably lose.” He asserted that the Kingdom has lost the support of “the great southern people” due to its recent alliances.
The compass has deviated and the alliance with the “Muslim Brotherhood” has begun.
In a series of fiery posts on the “X” platform, Bin Brik stated that certain elements within the Kingdom have “deviated Saudi Arabia’s compass from confronting the enemy to confronting allies, brothers, and friends.” He emphasized that history and the honorable people of Saudi Arabia will hold these individuals accountable before anyone else. Bin Brik accused Riyadh of adopting a contradictory strategy, saying, “It is inconceivable that Saudi Arabia would designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and imprison its leaders, only to then utilize their organization beyond its borders.” He asserted that the Kingdom has chosen to ally with the Muslim Brotherhood and has believed their propaganda at the expense of the sincere and loyal advice of those in the south.
From “pictures of the king” to slogans of pain
Bin Breik spoke bitterly about the shift in public sentiment in the south, saying, “Southerners used to raise the Saudi flag and pictures of King Salman and his crown prince, but now the slogans of the crowds are painful for us even more than for Saudi Arabia, because we never imagined we would chant a slogan that would hurt them.” He then asked rhetorically what reaction he expected from the southern street: “What do you expect from a people who have been betrayed, whose sons have been killed, and whose missing persons have been abducted? Do you expect them to come out applauding Saudi Arabia?” He emphasized that popular revolutions are fueled by bloodshed, and their flames ignite when their will is challenged.
A plea to the wise: “Correct the great mistake.”
The Vice President of the Transitional Council concluded his remarks by urging action to rectify the situation before it’s too late. He said, “I sincerely hope that the wise leaders in Saudi Arabia will correct this grave mistake.” He also expressed his hope that the day will come when Saudi Arabia mends the rift and repairs the damage caused by current policies.
