Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Sunday that Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Germany. These meetings included important discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Munich Summit: Security coordination with Washington
The military statement indicated that Field Marshal Mounir, who visited Germany from February 12 to 14, discussed “global and regional security dynamics” with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The talks focused on issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism. These meetings follow up on informal consultations held between the two sides last January in Switzerland, on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum. This reflects the desire of both parties to enhance strategic coordination.
Intense military-diplomatic activity
In addition to his meeting with the United States, the Pakistani army chief held a marathon of meetings with international military and political leaders. These included meetings with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, Foreign Policy Advisor Günter Sautter, and German Chief of the Defence Staff Carsten Breuer. Discussions focused on bilateral defense cooperation and strengthening global peace through dialogue. Field Marshal Munir also held what was described as a “fruitful” meeting with the Brazilian Chief of the Joint Staff, Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire. Their discussions centered on prospects for military cooperation between the two countries. The Pakistani army chief also met with the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, Major General Rudolf Heikel. The two sides discussed the regional security situation and ways to develop defense relations.
Promoting peace through dialogue
The Pakistani military’s public relations department confirmed that these diplomatic moves are part of Pakistan’s vision to promote international peace and security through bilateral and multilateral channels. The department indicated that the discussions covered contemporary security issues and the challenges facing the region and the world. It is also worth noting that Field Marshal Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have recently intensified their international engagements. These meetings have included leaders from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Azerbaijan, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s defense and economic partnerships.
