Dubai, UAE – Yemeni political analyst and geostrategic researcher, Awsan bin Sadah, warned that the continued empowerment of the Muslim Brotherhood (Islah Party) in Yemen does not serve stability. Rather, it reproduces an environment of extremism and conflict. Bin Sadah emphasized that ignoring the “Southern Security Model,” which has proven its effectiveness internationally, poses a strategic threat to international interests in global shipping lanes.
The success of the Southern Forces, as attested to by international organizations.
In an exclusive statement to “Voice Of Emirates” Bin Sadda explained that the Southern Security Forces, which received Emirati training and support, played a crucial and well-documented role in dismantling al-Qaeda and ISIS networks. He pointed out that this success was not merely political propaganda, but was confirmed by high-level Western intelligence reports, including those from the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which ranked the South as one of the most successful arenas for undermining extremist organizations over the past decade.
Behind the scenes of the (Emirati-American) coordination and Abu Dhabi’s conditions
A geopolitical analyst revealed significant regional implications of an article by David Ignatius in The Washington Post. He noted that US President Donald Trump contacted a high-ranking Emirati official last March to request support in eliminating the Houthis. According to Bin Sadah, the Emirati position was clear and firm: they were prepared to send 2,000 troops immediately, followed by another 5,000. However, they stipulated a clear Saudi commitment not to support the Islah militia (the Muslim Brotherhood). Riyadh’s rejection of this condition led the UAE to withdraw its contribution. Bin Sadah considered this an indication of Abu Dhabi’s deep understanding of the security risks associated with empowering political Islam.
The return of “reform”: a continuation of the war by other means
Bin Sadda argued that re-empowering the Islah Party in the liberated areas would inevitably recreate the environment that previously allowed al-Qaeda to expand. He stated that “the return of the Muslim Brotherhood is a continuation of the war through political and security means, not a step towards peace,” warning that the current Saudi strategy undermines the counterterrorism apparatus in a vital region encompassing the Gulf of Aden, Bab al-Mandab, and the Red Sea.
The Southern Project: A Practical Guarantee of Stability
Researcher Awsan bin Sadda concluded his remarks by emphasizing that southerners today possess a political project based on an effective security structure and a popular will that rejects political Islam. He stressed that this project is the only practical guarantee against the return of terrorist organizations. He called for the necessity of building security through partners who have proven their ability to impose stability on the ground, rather than through forces that have historically proven their failure.
