Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, discussed the latest regional developments and ways to enhance joint coordination on issues of mutual interest, with a focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. During a telephone call, the two ministers emphasized the need to adhere to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan and ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid. They also stressed the importance of initiating the early recovery and reconstruction phase in the Strip. Furthermore, they underscored the importance of supporting the work of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. This is intended to pave the way for the Palestinian Authority to resume its full responsibilities, as well as to support efforts to deploy an international stabilization force to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire.
The two ministers discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Peace Council in Washington, emphasizing Arab and Islamic coordination to ensure the full implementation of the US president’s plan without any omissions. They also affirmed their support for Trump’s principled stance rejecting the annexation of the West Bank. The ministers stressed the necessity of preserving the unity of Palestinian territory between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. They further affirmed their commitment to pursuing a clear political horizon that achieves an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. The ministers warned of the dangers of illegal Israeli actions in the West Bank, which could lead to an escalation of tensions and undermine efforts to achieve de-escalation. They also reviewed the overall regional situation, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to address crises. They affirmed the continuation of joint Arab coordination to confront current challenges. They stressed the importance of working towards sustainable political settlements that safeguard the interests of the Arab peoples and support regional security and stability.
