Muscat, Oman – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq received Dr. Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, at Al Baraka Palace this morning. The official visit aimed to discuss the latest developments in the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States. During the meeting, they reviewed ways to reach a balanced and fair agreement between the two sides. They also emphasized the importance of returning to the negotiating table, bridging differences, and resolving disputes peacefully to ensure peace and security in the region and the world.
Larijani arrived in Muscat on Tuesday for extensive talks on the latest regional and international developments and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to Iranian news agencies. The meetings in Muscat are reviewing the progress of the indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which are being mediated by Oman. The meetings are also part of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s efforts to build on previous talks. Among the topics discussed are an exchange of views on the progress of the negotiations and an assessment of Muscat’s constructive role. The prospects for continued talks between the two sides are also being explored.
Iran and the United States held a new round of talks last week in Oman. Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed to diplomats in Tehran on Sunday that Iran would maintain its right to enrich uranium. This represents one of the main points of contention with US President Donald Trump, who previously ordered airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites during the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. That war derailed previous rounds of nuclear negotiations.
