Aden, Yemen – The Administrative Board of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council held its regular meeting today, Wednesday, in the capital, Aden, chaired by Mr. Essam Abdo Ali, Acting President of the National Assembly, to discuss the latest political and security developments in the South. At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Essam Abdo Ali presented a comprehensive political briefing, reviewing the developments in the overall political landscape and its internal, regional, and international repercussions. He highlighted the magnitude of the challenges facing the Southern cause at this critical juncture. He emphasized that the escalating political targeting necessitates the highest levels of responsibility and national vigilance. He also commended the steadfastness and resilience of the Administrative Board and members of the National Assembly. He called for redoubled efforts and enhanced institutional performance to meet the aspirations of the people of the South.
In the same vein, the Administrative Body extended its highest regards and appreciation to the Southern Armed Forces stationed along the southern fronts and borders. It commended their valor in confronting the Houthi terrorist militias in defense of the land and dignity, and in safeguarding national gains. Furthermore, it praised their pivotal role in combating terrorism, drying up its sources, and countering smuggling operations that threaten southern national security. The Body emphasized the importance of strengthening southern national unity and aligning responsibly behind the Southern Transitional Council, led by President Aidarus bin Qasim al-Zubaidi, as the legitimate political representative of the southern cause and the true expression of the will and aspirations of the southern people to restore their fully sovereign state. In a related matter, the Administrative Body discussed the latest developments regarding the procedures and arrangements for announcing the formation of a new government, given the ongoing impasse. It stressed the necessity of responding to the legitimate demands of the southern people, foremost among them the formation of a southern government to manage services and development in the southern governorates. In parallel, she stressed the importance of forming a northern government concerned with managing the battle against the Houthi militias and completing the tasks of liberating Sana’a and the rest of the areas under their control.
In this context, the body reiterated its categorical rejection of the unilateral decisions issued by the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, regarding the exclusion of representatives of the Southern Transitional Council from the council’s membership. It considered these steps a blatant violation of the outcomes of the Riyadh consultations, which were held under regional and international auspices and guarantees and form the political basis for the existing partnership. The body also warned against the consequences of continuing to provoke the southern public and attempting to circumvent its will by promoting the return of political forces rejected by the southern people in their massive demonstrations. This rejection came after their proven involvement in serious crimes and violations against the South and its people, in addition to their long history of corruption, exclusion, and political reprisals. At the conclusion of the meeting, the administrative body listened to a brief security briefing presented by the National Assembly’s Security Committee on the latest security developments across the southern governorates. The role played by the security forces and the Southern Giants forces in consolidating security and stability in the capital, Aden, and the other governorates was commended. Their role in thwarting plans aimed at disrupting public order was also emphasized.
