Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated today that Tehran has not received any official request to hold negotiations with the United States. Araqchi said, “Of course, there are countries trying to consult as mediators, and we are in contact with them,” noting that Iran has not been in direct contact with Steve Whitaker, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, “in the past few days.” The Iranian minister emphasized that “diplomacy does not achieve results through military threats.” He added, “If the United States wants to hold negotiations, it must abandon threats, exaggerations, and raising illogical issues.”
Araghchi’s remarks came at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over the crackdown on protesters in Iran. Additionally, a US aircraft carrier and its accompanying task force have arrived in the Middle East, raising concerns about a potential military confrontation. US President Donald Trump has stated several times recently, including in his latest interview with Axios, that Iran is seeking negotiations and a deal. This claim was denied today by the Iranian Foreign Ministry official.
