Washington, DC – The American news website Axios, citing US and Israeli officials, revealed new details about the political and security behind-the-scenes maneuvering that preceded US President Donald Trump’s decision not to launch a military strike against Iran. This decision came despite escalating tensions in the region in recent days.

According to Axios, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi sent a text message to US Special Envoy Steve Wittkopf.

In the message, Araqchi pledged to postpone scheduled executions in Iran. This move was described as an attempt to de-escalate tensions and send a conciliatory signal to Washington. US officials explained that this message was one of several Trump received from Tehran through indirect channels. In addition, the website indicated that the Iranian messages influenced the overall atmosphere within the US administration. However, these messages were not the sole or decisive factor in the decision to halt the military strike.

Officials confirmed that Trump continued to seriously consider the military option until the last minute. This came amidst conflicting intelligence reports and military analyses.

According to Axios, the main reason behind Trump’s decision not to strike Iran was the inadequacy of the American military equipment deployed in the region at that time.

Additionally, there were explicit warnings from Washington’s allies about the repercussions of any potential attack. They also warned about the possible widespread Iranian retaliation that could spiral out of control.
