Aden, Yemen – U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, affirmed on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the United States’ full support for holding a comprehensive southern political dialogue hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that this step represents a fundamental pillar for promoting stability and reaching comprehensive political solutions in the country.
Fagen and Al-Mahrami meeting: High-level coordination
Ambassador Fagen’s remarks came during his meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with Abdul Rahman al-Mahrami (Abu Zara’a), Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council and Vice President of the Southern Transitional Council. The two sides discussed continued joint coordination to combat terrorist organizations, as well as curbing smuggling operations and securing international shipping lanes.
For his part, Commander Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami praised the continued American support, explaining that the American role is a “crucial element” in strengthening the cohesion of state institutions and their ability to confront current economic and military challenges.
