Tehran, Iran – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a strongly worded warning to the US administration and Israel on Sunday. He asserted that any military aggression against his country would be met with a devastating response targeting US interests in the region and within Israel itself.
Qalibaf’s warnings: US bases are in the crosshairs
Qalibaf addressed US President Donald Trump directly, warning that US military bases in the region and Israel would be “legitimate targets” for Iranian forces should Washington launch an attack.
This statement comes as Trump considers military options to strike Iran in response to what he called the “suppression of protests.” The New York Times reported that the US president has received briefings on new military options, though he has not yet made a final decision.
Israeli mobilization and coordination with Washington
Meanwhile, three informed Israeli sources revealed that Tel Aviv has placed its forces on high alert, coinciding with the expansion of anti-government protests in Iran.
This move comes amid indications of close coordination with Washington. This was demonstrated in a phone call yesterday, Saturday, between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which they discussed the possibility of US intervention.
It is worth noting that the region is still reeling from the 12-day war between Iran and Israel last June, making any current friction highly likely to escalate into a wider conflict.
