Paris, France – French Foreign Minister Stéphane Barrault confirmed that the United States has no intention of invading Greenland. He emphasized that Washington completely rules out the use of military force. However, it continues to discuss the possibility of purchasing the island through political and economic means.
In remarks reported by international media, Barrault clarified that raising the idea of buying Greenland does not imply any intention to impose a fait accompli by force. He asserted that the ongoing discussions primarily reflect the island’s growing strategic importance in light of geopolitical shifts and international competition in the Arctic region.
The French Foreign Minister pointed out that the issue of sovereignty over Greenland is governed by international law. He emphasized that any discussion regarding its future must respect the will of its inhabitants and the state to which it belongs, referring to the Kingdom of Denmark. He affirmed that Paris is closely monitoring developments in coordination with its European partners.
Greenland holds significant strategic importance due to its geographical location and natural resources, as well as its growing role in international balances related to navigation, resources, and energy. All of this makes it a focus of increasing attention for major powers, particularly the United States.
