Moscow, Russia — The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Ukrainian attacks targeting civilian areas inside Russian territory during the past month of December resulted in the deaths of 56 civilians, in addition to others being injured to varying degrees.
In an official statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the shelling struck residential neighborhoods and service facilities, using Western-made weapons. Moscow described the attacks as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the conventions protecting civilians during armed conflicts.
The statement added that Russian authorities have documented all attacks. They have also sent detailed reports to relevant international organizations, demanding independent investigations and accountability for those responsible for targeting civilians. It stressed that international silence regarding these incidents encourages their continuation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry warned of the dangers of the current escalation, stressing that the continued targeting of civilian areas threatens serious humanitarian and security repercussions and undermines prospects for reaching a political settlement to the crisis.
This comes as military confrontations between Moscow and Kyiv continue, amid stalled diplomatic efforts and growing international concerns over the expansion of the conflict and the worsening of its impact on regional and global security.
