Moscow, Russia – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that his country has set three key conditions it considers essential for any comprehensive political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that Moscow will not accept partial or temporary solutions that do not address the root causes of the crisis.
Lavrov explained that the first condition is ensuring Ukraine’s neutrality and preventing its joining any military alliances that threaten Russian national security. He considered NATO’s eastward expansion to be one of the fundamental reasons for the outbreak of the conflict.
He pointed out that the second condition relates to recognizing the new realities on the ground, referring to the territories annexed by Russia, stressing that ignoring these realities renders any negotiations meaningless and prolongs the conflict.
The third condition, according to Lavrov, relates to guaranteeing and protecting the rights of Russian-speaking residents, along with ending what he described as the discriminatory policies pursued by Kyiv in recent years.
The Russian foreign minister stressed that Moscow is open to diplomatic solutions. However, it will not back down from its fundamental conditions, asserting that any genuine settlement must be based on a balance of interests and respect for what Russia describes as its “legitimate security concerns.”
