Aden, Yemen – Anwar al-Tamimi, spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, affirmed that the declaration of support for the “State of South Arabia” by several ministries, sovereign institutions, and local authorities within the government is not merely a political stance. Rather, it is a practical confirmation that southerners are proceeding with arrangements to manage their own affairs and establish a new reality on the ground.
In exclusive statements to “Sawt Al Emarat,” Al-Tamimi explained that the option of self-governance in the south has become an inevitable necessity. This situation arose after the partners in the Presidential Leadership Council, most notably Rashad Al-Alimi, failed to uphold their commitments to the partnership and previous agreements.
Critique of partnership and the hegemonic approach
Al-Tamimi directed scathing criticism at the management methodology of the Presidential Leadership Council, saying: “In the view of Rashad Al-Alimi and those with him, partnership is about acquisition, domination, and confiscation of the southern right. This situation cannot continue; either it is an equal partnership in which we are masters and decision-makers on our land, or nothing.”
He noted that the Southern Transitional Council had successfully completed its military and security empowerment plan. It had also succeeded in deploying its forces across the entire southern region. Al-Tamimi emphasized that the current phase is one of administrative organization to ensure the continuity of services and the smooth functioning of citizens’ lives, free from political disruption.
Tsunami of support: Ministries and sovereign institutions
In a move that represents a radical shift in the landscape, major government ministries and agencies have announced their support for the project to restore the state. They have declared their readiness to operate under the umbrella of the Southern Transitional Council. The list of supporting entities includes:
Sovereign and service ministries: Justice, Transport, Information, Culture and Tourism, Social Affairs and Labor, Civil Service and Insurance, Water and Environment, and Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries.
Government institutions and agencies: These have declared their allegiance to the Southern political leadership to ensure an orderly administrative transition.
Aden makes its position clear: Discipline under the banner of the Southern Transitional Council
For its part, the Executive Office of the capital, Aden, announced in an official meeting its full support for all steps taken by the Southern Transitional Council, led by Major General Aidarus Qasim al-Zubaidi.
The local authority explained in its statement that it had faced major challenges due to attempts to “inject political disputes into service-related matters.” It affirmed that the Southern Transitional Council is the sole political body authorized to operate within the local authority.
It emphasized its commitment to defending the national gains achieved in Hadramawt, al-Mahra, and all southern governorates. It also affirmed its adherence to the legitimate right of the people of the South to declare their independent state, in response to the popular will and the immense sacrifices made.
Alignment to manage the transitional phase
The simultaneous statements from ministries and institutions concluded by affirming national unity behind the Southern leadership. They pledged to ensure the continued operation of public facilities and the efficient delivery of services to citizens. Their goal is to guarantee an “orderly transition” that does not negatively impact the interests of the people or the public service, and that ends the era of marginalization and dependency.
