Cairo, Egypt – The Muslim Brotherhood continues to try to exploit any economic or political event in the Arab countries that have revealed their true nature to the people, especially the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
This is done through flawed statements issued by what is called the international
organization of the group, whether in Istanbul or London.
On December 19, the media office of the organization’s Türkiye branch released
a new statement regarding the gas agreements in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
As usual, it contained a familiar mix of historical, legal, and political fallacies,
despite its insistence that it was based on a legal and historical foundation.
The group also tried to package its statement with a “national” and “moral” character.
However, a closer look at the content of the statement and the historical
and temporal context in which it appeared tells you about a state of “political delirium”.
And a complete detachment from reality and from the language of politics and strategic interests that govern the world.
purely commercial contracts
The group’s statement was based on a deliberate conflation of “commercial contracts” and “political positions”.
The fact confirmed by the documents is that the gas supply agreements to Egypt are agreements between private sector companies (international and local companies).
Its primary aim is to exploit Egypt’s unique infrastructure.
Egypt owns liquefaction plants in “Idku” and “Damietta” that are valued at billions of dollars.
It would have turned into “scrap” were it not for the strategic vision that stipulated making Egypt
the final destination for the region’s gas to be re-exported to Europe and the world.
This move was not a “reward” for anyone, but rather an investment in geopolitics;
as Egypt became the “lung” through which the Old Continent breathes in terms of energy.
This gave Cairo political and economic leverage it did not previously possess,
which undermines the group’s claim that the agreement represents a “geopolitical threat”.
Anyone who follows the context in which the deal was announced will discover
that Egypt is handling it with the utmost skill, which gives it the upper hand.
The Palestinian cause is not open to negotiation
As is typical of the group, the statement tried to play on nationalist sentiment
by claiming that these agreements infringe on Palestinian rights.
Herein lies the paradox; the Egyptian state is the one that established and supported
the “East Mediterranean Gas Forum” which includes Palestine as a founding and full member.
This is to guarantee the Palestinian people’s right to exploit their natural resources off the coast of Gaza.
That is, the forum is considered an official winning card in the framework of supporting
the establishment of the Palestinian state, and not the other way around.
It is well known that the Egyptian position on the Palestinian issue,
especially in light of the current crises, is characterized by firmness
and clarity in rejecting displacement and the liquidation of the issue.
This is an uncompromising position from a group that historical experience has proven places the interests
of the “organization” above the interests of the “nation” and the “cause” together.
The Egyptian state manages its affairs with a delicate balance that ensures the continuation of
its role as a regional power capable of protecting Arab rights, not as a mere vocal phenomenon that is satisfied with slogans.
The delusion of alternatives and the contradictions of the Brotherhood
The group also spoke in its statement about “Arab and Islamic alternatives,”
a proposition that lacks the most basic principles of economic logic.
This is in light of the complexities of transportation and logistics and long-term contract agreements.
This “delusion” brings to mind the group’s failure during its rule to manage the energy sector.
When the country witnessed its darkest era as a result of mismanagement and a lack of vision,
While the current Egyptian state has succeeded in achieving self-sufficiency and transitioning to exporting in record time.
monopolizing the right to speak on behalf of the people
The most dangerous aspect of the Brotherhood statement is their attempt
to monopolize speaking on behalf of the Egyptian people,
and their claim that “the conscience of Egyptians rejects normalization.”
The truth is that Egyptians are very good at distinguishing between national principles and the management of interests.
They realize that the group uses the Palestinian cause as a political card whenever it is in a tight spot.
Although her practical record is full of contradictions, from political coordination to gray positions,
and even regional compromises when she was in power.
The Muslim Brotherhood rhetoric
Experience has proven that the Brotherhood rhetoric does not produce policy,
does not protect homelands, and does not liberate land,
but rather is content with noise and accusations of treason.
While the Egyptian state acts according to precise calculations, it protects its national security.
It supports the Palestinian cause in action, not just in slogans,
and separates the legitimate political conflict from the management of the economy and energy.
The timing of the statement and its inflammatory content confirm the group’s desire to exploit any regional momentum.
To create chaos in the Arab street, sometimes in Egypt, sometimes in the Emirates,
sometimes in Saudi Arabia, and sometimes in Jordan.
