Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing for a historic visit to Ethiopia from December 16-17, his first visit to the country. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and coincides with India’s preparations to assume the BRICS summit presidency in 2026.
India’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Anil Kumar Rai, said the visit will include extensive talks between Prime Minister Modi and his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali. They will discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on investment, agriculture, mining, public digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
The Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament. This move reflects the importance of the visit and the depth of political relations between the two countries.
The Indian ambassador described the visit as “a truly historic moment,” emphasizing that it would contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation and intensifying coordination between New Delhi and Addis Ababa on international issues, including UN reform and the BRICS agenda.
