Oslo, Norway – The director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Kristian Berg Harpviken, announced that he does not know the whereabouts of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Therefore, she will not be attending the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony scheduled to take place in Oslo on Wednesday.
Harpviken told NRK that Machado’s movements are very limited and known only to a small circle of close associates. Given the repressive nature of President Nicolás Maduro’s regime, tracking her whereabouts is extremely difficult.
These developments come as the world awaits this year’s Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, amid growing international concern over Venezuela’s political situation and the state of public freedoms there.
