Cairo, Egypt – The Guardian newspaper revealed that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has returned to the forefront of the Middle East. This is through his membership in the “Peace Council” led by US President Donald Trump. However, the newspaper considered his previous experience in the region to be less reassuring.
The newspaper explained that Blair’s name is associated with the invasion of Iraq and his simplistic view that considers Islamic extremism the greatest threat. He is now seeking to present himself as a powerful figure in the Gaza file. However, his record, replete with deals and personal interests, raises many doubts.
She added that Blair had served as the Quartet’s envoy to Jerusalem. The Palestinians accused him of being an obstacle to their cause and a mediator biased toward Israel. She noted that this makes his return today “appropriate for the Trump era” of interests.
American analyst Josh Boll, who previously worked with him, warned of two “fatal flaws” in any plan Blair put forward:
First: Prioritizing economic development over a political solution and the right to self-determination. This has proven to be a failure in the past.
Second: The constant effort to appease Israel, which continues its policy of “systematic genocide.” This makes any realistic goals impossible to achieve.
