Tehran, Iran – Security forces and Basij militia deployed heavily across Tehran and major cities between Monday night and Tuesday morning, September 8, 2026.
Fuel Price Hike Sparks Popular Discontent
The deployment followed the government’s official announcement doubling the price of the third-tier gasoline quota from 5,000 to 10,000 tomans per liter overnight.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated primary subsidized quotas remain unchanged, though the sudden decision triggered sharp public criticism over broken administrative promises.
Heavy Deployment and Fuel Station Lockdowns
Security units and motorcycle patrols mobilized across Tehran, Khorramabad, Mashhad, and Shiraz, while several filling stations in Birjand closed abruptly under security cordons.
Armed Basij members were recorded taking positions on roofs in Khomeini Shahr, underscoring maximum readiness by Iranian authorities to suppress potential unrest.
