New York, United States – UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on all parties involved in Lebanon to work towards a diplomatic settlement that guarantees full respect
for Lebanon’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence.
He also stressed the importance of avoiding any steps that could deepen the crisis or widen the conflict.
Affirmation of Lebanon’s sovereignty
The UN Secretary-General stressed the need to preserve Lebanon’s safety and territorial integrity.
He asserted that any sustainable solution to the crisis must be based on respect
for Lebanese sovereignty and adherence to international law and relevant UN resolutions.
He affirmed that the international community continues to follow developments in Lebanon with grave concern,
particularly given the escalating security tensions in the region.
Call for a comprehensive ceasefire
The UN Secretary-General stressed that any effective political or diplomatic process must begin with a comprehensive ceasefire,
as a fundamental step to create the conditions necessary for dialogue and de-escalation.
He added that the continuation of military operations exacerbates the suffering of civilians
and increases the risks to security and stability in Lebanon and the entire region.
Supporting diplomatic solutions
The UN Secretary-General reiterated his call for prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions.
He affirmed that the United Nations stands ready to support any efforts
that contribute to de-escalation and a settlement guaranteeing security and stability.

the escalation and preventing the situation from spiraling into a wider confrontation.
Such a confrontation could have serious repercussions for Lebanon and the region.
