Beirut, Lebanon – Relations between Lebanon and the European Union have taken a new step towards strengthening cooperation in border management and developing border crossing infrastructure. This was achieved through support for projects aimed at modernizing the Masnaa border crossing and improving the efficiency of services provided to travelers and trade between Lebanon and neighboring countries.
During joint meetings and discussions, Lebanese and European officials emphasized the importance of developing the crossing as one of the country’s most vital land gateways. They noted that the project aims to improve crossing procedures and facilitate the movement of people and goods. It also enhances security and control levels in accordance with modern international standards.
The cooperation includes implementing technical and technological programs to develop border management systems and modernize equipment used in inspection and monitoring operations. It also supports capacity building for personnel working at border crossings through training and the exchange of expertise between the two sides.
The European Union affirmed its continued support for Lebanon in addressing its economic and security challenges. It also stressed the importance of strengthening border management to combat smuggling and cross-border crime. This will also help regulate the movement of people and trade more efficiently and effectively.
For its part, the Lebanese side considered the development of the Masnaa border crossing an important step towards improving border infrastructure and enhancing trade and economic ties with countries in the region. This will positively impact economic activity and the flow of imports and exports.
This cooperation falls within the framework of the ongoing partnership between Lebanon and the European Union. This partnership encompasses numerous development and security programs aimed at supporting stability and strengthening state institutions. It also seeks to develop vital infrastructure to serve the interests of citizens and support sustainable development efforts.
