Prague, Czech Republic – Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), emphasized that the stability of the Gulf region is not merely a regional priority but a fundamental pillar for the stability of the global economy and international maritime security. Consequently, his remarks were delivered during his prominent participation in a strategic dialogue session held on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC 2026 Global Security Forum in Prague. Furthermore, Al-Budaiwi affirmed the GCC states’ commitment to bolstering security and sustainable development. From this perspective, these efforts contribute to safeguarding the common interests of the region and the world at large. This is especially clear amidst accelerating geopolitical challenges.
Evolving GCC-EU Partnership in Facing International Challenges
On the other hand, Al-Budaiwi explained that the strategic partnership between the GCC states and the European Union has achieved tangible gains in supporting security and stability. Furthermore, he emphasized that the GCC General Secretariat prioritizes an active presence in major international forums to enhance dialogue with partners and decision-makers. Based on this, Al-Budaiwi noted that the world is facing complex and growing crises today. These crises require high-level international coordination, particularly on issues related to global energy security, supply chain protection, and regional stability.
Strong Interdependence Between European and Middle Eastern Security
In the same context, the Secretary General highlighted that recent developments have proven the close interdependence between the security of the European continent and the Middle East. Any disruption in the Gulf region or its vital surrounding maritime passages directly impacts the European economy. Likewise, it affects the stability of global energy markets. These markets rely on the continuous flow of supplies from the region. From this perspective, Al-Budaiwi stressed the utmost importance of protecting aerial and maritime corridors and ensuring freedom of navigation without obstructions.
Upcoming GCC-EU Summit: Broader Horizons for Cooperation
Ultimately, Al-Budaiwi expressed great optimism regarding the future of GCC-European relations. Both sides look forward to developing these ties and opening broader horizons for economic and security cooperation. Based on this, the upcoming GCC-EU Summit will represent a milestone in strengthening this coordination. Consequently, the summit is expected to deliver tangible results. These results will serve the strategic interests of both sides. Thus, the GCC once again proves its role as an effective and strong partner in shaping the international security architecture. Moreover, it achieves global economic prosperity.
