Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social his decision to extend the ceasefire and postpone the planned military strike against Iran, citing a “sharp division” within the Iranian government.
Trump explained that this decision came in response to a direct request from the Pakistani side,
represented by Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The Pakistani side requested that the Iranian leadership be given an opportunity to present a unified diplomatic proposal.
At the same time as this extension, the US president issued strict directives to the armed forces to maintain the tight blockade.
He also ordered them to remain on high alert and at full combat readiness. This was to deal with any contingency.
In response to Pakistani mediation
President Trump indicated that the suspension of military operations was
a gesture in response to diplomatic efforts undertaken by Islamabad in recent hours.
Field Marshal Asim Munir and the Pakistani Prime Minister sought to secure additional space for dialogue.
Trump stated that Washington agreed to this request to give Iranian leaders
and representatives sufficient time to formulate a unified official position.
This unified position would end the current contradictions in their statements.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the United States awaits
a “concrete proposal” that fundamentally addresses security and nuclear concerns.
This is a prerequisite for moving toward a permanent de-escalation.
Continued naval blockade
Despite the extension of the ceasefire, Trump affirmed that pressure on the ground would not ease.
He directed the US armed forces to impose a comprehensive blockade and continue monitoring operations in vital waterways.
This measure aims to ensure that Tehran does not exploit the truce to strengthen its positions or circumvent international sanctions.
The US president stated that forces deployed in the region remain “ready on all fronts.”
He also emphasized that the option of force remains on the table.
However, this is contingent on the seriousness of the anticipated Iranian proposal
or the expiration of the negotiation period without tangible results.
Unifying the Iranian position
Trump explained that the US administration is closely monitoring the divisions within Tehran’s decision-making circles,
which he described as “expected” and which have disrupted the diplomatic process in Islamabad.
The White House views the extension of the ceasefire as a final test of Tehran’s ability to offer a conciliatory vision.
He also emphasized that the next US position will depend on the nature of the Iranian response, whether it accepts or rejects the US terms.
Thus, the region remains in a state of cautious anticipation, awaiting the outcome of the internal Iranian consultations.
Moreover, everyone is watching closely to see how Iran will respond to international calls for de-escalation.
