Manama – The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the condemnation issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Bahrain considers this action a clear violation of international law and a direct threat to the security of navigation and global trade.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital energy artery
The Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in an official statement that freedom of navigation
in international waterways is a fundamental and inviolable principle.
It stressed the necessity for all states to adhere to international laws and agreements,
which guarantee the unimpeded flow of shipping.
The statement further noted that any disruption to the Strait of Hormuz,
a vital artery for global energy supplies, would exacerbate tensions in the region.
Such a disruption would also negatively impact the international economy,
particularly given the current tense geopolitical climate.
A firm stance to ensure the security of maritime routes
Bahrain called on the international community to take a firm stance to ensure the security of maritime routes.
It also urged efforts to contain the escalation and prioritize diplomatic solutions,
thereby preserving regional stability and preventing the situation from spiraling into wider confrontations.
Observers believe these developments reflect the sensitivity of the Strait of Hormuz,
which remains a strategic bargaining chip in the regional power struggle.
These views come amid growing concerns about the repercussions of
any unilateral actions that could disrupt global trade and energy flows.
