Tehran, Iran – The Iranian police command (FARJA) announced in an official statement today the arrest of 50 people in a large-scale security operation spanning 16 Iranian provinces. They were charged with collaborating with foreign entities and providing sensitive intelligence information described as serving the “enemy.”
Monitoring infrastructure and military sites
According to a statement issued by security authorities, the detainees were accused of preparing and monitoring maps of strategic and sensitive locations. These locations included infrastructure facilities providing public services, as well as checkpoints and troop deployment sites responsible for public security.
The statement indicated that the purpose of gathering this information was to facilitate combat operations. It was also intended to determine “fixed and moving coordinates” for guiding precise missile strikes.
These arrests come amid a tense situation on the ground. Since the beginning of the recent conflict, hundreds of police stations, barracks, and Basij bases have been targeted. According to reports, even hidden locations, such as the special forces’ hideouts in Azadi Stadium (formerly Aryamehr Stadium), have not been spared. Similarly, Imam Ali security units and Basij forces stationed in civilian buildings have also been targeted. This reflects the accuracy of the information recently circulated from the field.
“Mercenary” activities and confiscation of equipment
State media outlets, including SNN, described the detainees as “mercenaries” working for the United States and Israel. Reports confirmed that authorities seized sophisticated electronic devices and satellite communication equipment during the raids. Additionally, weapons were confiscated from some members of the group.
Severe penalties, including the death penalty
The detainees face serious charges under the recently strengthened and harsher “espionage law” designed to address current security challenges.
Under the new law, those accused of espionage activities that harm national security could face the death penalty. In addition, all their movable and immovable assets may be confiscated.
