Beirut, Lebanon – Hezbollah categorically denied accusations by the Syrian Interior Ministry regarding its alleged involvement in a cell suspected of attempting to assassinate a religious figure in Damascus. The party asserted that these claims are “completely baseless” and lack any evidence.
In an official statement, Hezbollah clarified that it does not interfere in Syria’s internal security affairs. It emphasized that its priorities remain focused on confronting regional challenges, not engaging in operations of this nature.
The statement added that dragging Hezbollah’s name into such matters aims to “tarnish its image” and sow discord, particularly given the sensitive circumstances in the region.
The Syrian Interior Ministry had previously announced the thwarting of a plot to assassinate a prominent religious figure in Damascus. It also indicated the arrest of several individuals involved, with some members of the cell accused of having foreign ties.
These developments come amidst a state of intermittent security tension within Syria. Authorities are working to tighten their measures to counter any threats targeting internal stability.
