Tehran, Iran – Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stated that any upcoming talks with the United States will not begin before two key conditions are met: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets, amid ongoing regional tensions and stalled de-escalation efforts.
Preconditions for Negotiations
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf explained that his country insists on implementing prior commitments before entering any negotiation round with Washington, noting that halting military operations in Lebanon is essential to creating a suitable political and security environment for talks.
Frozen Assets Issue
He also stressed that the release of Iran’s frozen assets abroad is a primary demand that cannot be overlooked, pointing out that this issue had been raised in previous negotiation rounds without reaching a final resolution.
Tense Regional Context
These statements come at a time when the region is witnessing rapid security developments, alongside international and regional efforts to advance de-escalation, while disagreements persist over the conditions for initiating direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
