Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a move that underscores the depth of the military partnership between Riyadh and Islamabad, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday the arrival of a military force from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Province. This deployment is in accordance with the provisions of the Joint Strategic Defense Agreement signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and comes at a time when the region is facing escalating security challenges.
Enhancing readiness and deterrence
The Ministry explained in an official statement that the arriving Pakistani force includes fighter jets and support systems belonging to the Pakistani Air Force.
This military deployment aims to enhance joint operational coordination and raise the level of combat readiness between the armed forces of both countries, thereby ensuring the protection of strategic interests and supporting security and stability at both the regional and international levels. This move also comes as an implementation of the historic agreement signed by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Excellency the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, on September 17th. This agreement clearly stipulates that “any attack on either country is an attack on both,” thus reinforcing the concept of joint deterrence against any external threats.
Eight-decade partnership: “One Row”
This step builds upon a long legacy of defense cooperation spanning nearly eight decades, and stems from the bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity that unite the Kingdom and Pakistan.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman underscored the depth of this alliance, stating, “Saudi Arabia and Pakistan stand united against the aggressor… always and forever,” reflecting a firm commitment to the terms of the strategic partnership.
Observers believe that the arrival of Pakistani air reinforcements in the Kingdom’s eastern sector sends a clear message about the two countries’ ability to protect their national security and secure vital energy corridors.
This cooperation also strengthens the two countries’ position as key pillars of security in the Middle East and South Asia. This comes especially in light of the intensive diplomatic and military efforts led by Riyadh and Islamabad to defuse regional crises and ensure territorial integrity and shared interests.
