Beirut – Lebanon
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Friday that the death toll from Israeli strikes targeting multiple areas in Lebanon on Wednesday has risen to 357, according to Reuters.
Major Military Escalation in the South
Southern Lebanon has recently witnessed ongoing military escalation between Hezbollah and the Israeli Army, with Israeli forces intensifying airstrikes on various towns and areas, targeting sites and infrastructure it claims belong to the group.
In response, Hezbollah launched rockets and drones toward positions inside Israel, making the Lebanese front one of the hottest confrontation zones in the region.
Political and Military Overlap
These developments come amid a tense regional context influenced by the broader escalation linked to the conflict between the United States and Iran, which has affected multiple fronts, including Lebanon.
Despite the recent ceasefire announcement between Washington and Tehran, clashes on the Lebanese front have not fully ceased, though they have relatively decreased in some areas while sporadic strikes continue.
Possible De-escalation Efforts
Politically, signs of efforts to contain the escalation have emerged, with reports indicating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the start of direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible to discuss security arrangements, including the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Lebanese sources speak of intensive diplomatic efforts to reach a temporary ceasefire paving the way for broader negotiations, with a potential international mediation role—particularly from the United States—to ensure any possible agreement.
