Doha, Qatar – The State of Qatar condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on areas in Lebanon. It described them as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law. It also called on all parties to abide by UN resolutions. In particular, it referenced Resolution 1701, which calls for a cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.
Condemnation of military escalation
The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Israeli airstrikes pose a threat to security and stability in Lebanon and the region. It also stressed that the continuation of this escalation endangers civilians. Moreover, this undermines efforts toward peace and regional stability.
A call for restraint and calm
Doha stressed the need for restraint on the part of all parties. It urged them to refrain from any actions that could lead to further escalation. It also emphasized the role of the international community in exerting pressure on Israel to cease its violations and respect Lebanese sovereignty.
Compliance with international law
Qatar emphasized that respect for international law and Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 1701, is fundamental to maintaining stability and protecting civilians. It also called for opening channels of dialogue to reach peaceful solutions. These solutions would reduce military escalation and guarantee the security of Lebanon and the region as a whole.
