Beirut – Lebanon: Israeli sources announced that the Israeli Army targeted in an attack on the Lebanese capital Beirut the personal secretary and nephew of Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, as part of ongoing Israeli military operations since early March.
Details of the Israeli Strike
The Israeli Army stated in an official statement that the attack targeted a member of Hezbollah, without disclosing further details about their identity or the outcome. Israel’s Channel 2 reported that the target was the personal secretary and nephew of Naim Qassem, while no official comment has yet been issued by Hezbollah.
Vital Bridges in Southern Lebanon
In a related development, the Lebanese Army announced the evacuation of a vital bridge in southern Lebanon following an Israeli threat to target it. The bridge is the last link between the southern and northern parts of the Litani River in the area of Tyre. These measures come after the Israeli Army destroyed five major bridges over the Litani River since the start of the war, including bridges in the Western Beqaa region, aiming to disrupt Hezbollah reinforcements.
Previous Strikes and Targeting Officials
A judicial source revealed that an Israeli strike carried out late last week on a town east of Beirut targeted a Hezbollah official who had a personal relationship with a woman residing in the targeted building. The intended target survived the strike, which killed three residents, while the woman’s testimony helped confirm the identity of the targeted individual as a Hezbollah official.
Israel continues to carry out strikes on Hezbollah positions, citing claims that bridges are being used to transport reinforcements and military equipment toward the Lebanese border.
