The International Committee of the Red Cross warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. It stressed that protecting civilians has become an urgent necessity that cannot be delayed. This comes amid escalating military conflicts across multiple countries in the region.
In its latest statement, the International Committee of the Red Cross said that armed conflicts do not distinguish between fighters and civilians. Also, the continued targeting of vital infrastructure—including hospitals, water networks, and electricity—intensifies civilian suffering and threatens the lives of thousands of innocent people. It emphasized that adherence to international humanitarian law is essential to avoid a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe. Furthermore, the Committee warned that continued military operations without restraint could lead to new waves of displacement and severe food and health crises.
The International Committee of the Red Cross also stressed the importance of ensuring safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid. It called on the international community to increase pressure on conflict parties to protect civilians and provide safeguards for children, women, and the elderly. These groups are directly affected by the consequences of war.
Experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross noted that neglecting the humanitarian dimension of conflicts could turn the region into a persistent conflict zone. The repercussions could extend beyond affected countries to impact regional and global stability. They emphasized that supporting humanitarian efforts and strengthening civilian protection must be a shared priority for all parties. This is essential to prevent human suffering from turning into a prolonged catastrophe.
