Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military announced this morning that it had carried out a strategic air operation targeting deep within Iran’s military infrastructure. It also confirmed the bombing of a vital petrochemical complex in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz during airstrikes on Monday.
Targeting the “nerve” of explosives and missiles
In an official statement, the Israeli military spokesperson explained that the attack targeted a specialized petrochemical complex, one of the few remaining such facilities in Iran. The statement added that this complex is capable of producing vital chemical components used in the manufacture of explosives and ballistic missile propellants. The statement revealed that the targeted plant was primarily used by Iranian forces to produce nitric acid, an essential chemical indispensable in the production of high-explosives. Furthermore, this substance is used in the development of solid fuel for long-range missile systems.
The Israeli military indicated that the destruction of this site represents a significant step forward in undermining Tehran’s ability to replenish its strategic military stockpile.
Completing the “dismantling of vital facilities” strategy
The Shiraz strike is part of a series of systematic operations targeting Iran’s petrochemical sector, which is linked to military activity.
The Israeli military stated that this attack is a continuation of its earlier strikes targeting the country’s largest petrochemical complex. It also targeted the strategic complex in the city of Mahshahr. The Iranian side confirmed the attacks; local authorities in Fars province reported on Monday that a petrochemical complex near Shiraz was targeted by airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel. Iranian sources indicated that this was the second such attack targeting major energy and industrial facilities in the southern region. This follows the earlier announcement of a bombing of a large complex in the coastal city of Asaluyeh.
