Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced today that its air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed two hostile drones in the past few hours. This military achievement underscores the high level of vigilance and combat readiness of the Saudi armed forces in safeguarding the Kingdom’s borders and protecting its security and stability. It also affirms their ability to confront any cross-border threats.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense stated, via the ministry’s official account on the “X” platform, that air defense systems detected hostile targets and engaged them professionally and decisively. This resulted in the destruction of the two drones before they reached their intended targets.
The official statement did not specify the precise location of the interception, but emphasized that the forces are working around the clock to secure all strategic directions of the Kingdom, as well as to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and vital installations. This operation comes at a time of escalating military tensions in the region, sending a clear message about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ability to deter any aggression targeting its territory, especially given the exceptional circumstances the region is currently experiencing.
Since the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War on February 28, 2016, following widespread US and Israeli airstrikes targeting vital military installations and command centers in Tehran and several other cities, the region has entered a period of unprecedented escalation. These strikes resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day, along with a number of senior officials and commanders, including the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, and prominent leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This created a state of regional security instability.
In closing, the Ministry spokesperson urged the public to obtain information only from official sources and not to be swayed by rumors. He also emphasized the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to complete transparency in keeping the public informed about developments in defense operations.
