Tehran, Iran – In a stunning intelligence and military blow that shook the foundations of the Iranian security establishment, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced early this morning the death of Brigadier General Majid Khademi, head of the IRGC’s intelligence service. This came in the wake of joint airstrikes carried out by US and Israeli forces. The strikes also targeted strategic sites in the heart of the capital, Tehran.
Details of the attack and the breach of the “secret house”
This news confirms what Iran International reported earlier about a direct attack on Khademi’s home.
His assassination represents a major security breach, especially since he was appointed to this sensitive position following the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, during what became known as the “Twelve-Day War” in 2005. This means that the Revolutionary Guard has lost two of its intelligence chiefs within a few months.
Who is Majid Khademi? “The academic and the fighter”
Brigadier General Khademi is considered one of the most enigmatic and influential figures in the Revolutionary Guard. He holds two doctorates, one in “National Security” and the other in “Strategic Defense Studies.”
This ambiguity is reflected in his media persona. He has appeared at times as “Majid Khademi” and at other times as “Majid Hosseini,” while his real name has remained a closely guarded secret within the Guard’s inner circles.
Khademi rose through the ranks of highly sensitive security positions. He served as head of the Defense Ministry’s intelligence protection unit in May 2018, before moving to head the Revolutionary Guard’s intelligence protection unit in July 2022. He had always been seen as a possible successor to Hossein Taeb since 2014, given his long experience in counter-espionage and securing military and nuclear programs.
