New York, United States — The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the situation in Lebanon as tensions escalate between Hezbollah and Israel, raising serious humanitarian and security risks.
Warning of humanitarian deterioration
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations, said the Lebanese people are caught in the middle of the escalating conflict, facing increasingly difficult living and security conditions, particularly in border areas.
Speaking to Sky News Arabia, he warned that civilians are already experiencing deteriorating conditions and that the situation could worsen rapidly if hostilities continue or expand.
Calls for restraint
Dujarric stressed the need for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any steps that could further escalate the situation, noting that the United Nations is closely monitoring developments.
He also emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and adhering to international humanitarian law.
Fears of wider escalation
The remarks come amid growing concerns that the situation could escalate into a broader confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel.
Further escalation could deepen Lebanon’s economic and political crises and have serious implications for regional stability.
