Cairo, Egypt — Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting residential areas in Beirut, reaffirming full solidarity with Lebanon and its efforts to assert sovereignty across its territory.
Support for Lebanon’s sovereignty
Ahmed Aboul Gheit stressed the Arab League’s support for strengthening state authority in Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that all weapons remain under state control to preserve stability.
He noted that such measures are essential to prevent further escalation amid rising regional tensions.
Efforts to resolve Sudan crisis
Regarding Sudan, Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the Arab League is working to facilitate an inclusive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and launching a comprehensive political process.
He reaffirmed rejection of any arrangements that could undermine the unity or territorial integrity of Sudan.
Calls for ceasefire
Ahmed Aboul Gheit called for an immediate ceasefire and a comprehensive political settlement in Sudan.
He stressed that consolidating state control over arms is key to restoring stability, particularly as the country faces escalating humanitarian, economic, and security challenges.
