New York, USA – The Kingdom of Bahrain announced that it hopes to hold a vote in the UN Security Council tomorrow, Friday,
on a draft resolution it submitted aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
This comes amid escalating regional tensions that threaten one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.
Bahraini diplomatic move
Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani stated before the Security Council that his country drafted the resolution
as part of its efforts to support regional stability and ensure the continued unimpeded flow of global trade.
He emphasized the importance of taking action, particularly in light of current security challenges.
He explained that the initiative comes in response to the growing threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The strait is a vital artery for the transport of oil and goods between East and West,
and he stressed the importance of urgent and coordinated action by the international community.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategic waterways, through which a significant percentage of global oil exports pass.
Therefore, any disruption to it directly impacts international markets and energy prices.
International anticipation for the Security Council’s decision
The region has recently witnessed escalating military tensions, raising widespread concerns about maritime safety
and prompting many countries to call for international measures to ensure the security of this vital waterway.
Bahrain move comes amid growing international interest in restoring stability to the region.
The Security Council is expected to discuss the draft resolution in an upcoming session, ahead of a vote.
Observers believe that the adoption of the resolution, if passed, could represent a significant step toward enhancing maritime security.
It would also support international efforts to contain the escalation and ensure the continued flow of global trade without threat.
