Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Amid escalating military tensions in the region, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its forces successfully intercepted and destroyed three hostile drones in the past few hours. The announcement was made in a statement by the ministry’s official spokesperson, Major General Turki al-Maliki, carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), who affirmed the readiness of Saudi air defenses to address all threats targeting the Kingdom’s security and facilities.
In a related development, Reuters, citing US officials, reported an Iranian attack targeting Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj province (southeast of Riyadh).
According to reports, the attack injured at least 12 US service members, two of whom were described as being in critical condition, making it one of the most serious breaches of US defenses since the start of direct confrontations in late February.
Sources revealed that the attack not only resulted in casualties but also damaged several US Air Force aircraft, specifically KC-135 aerial refueling tankers, vital strategic assets for sustaining air operations in the region. Reuters reported that the attack was carried out using a combination of ballistic missiles and suicide drones, causing material damage to some of the base’s buildings and maintenance facilities. This attack brings the number of wounded US forces in the region to over 300 since the conflict erupted on February 28, amidst ongoing tit-for-tat strikes between Washington and Tehran.
