Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it needs additional troops to support its deployment in southern Lebanon. This comes amid ongoing clashes with Hezbollah as Israel seeks to establish a buffer zone along the border.
Military spokesman Efi Defrin said in a televised briefing that “the Lebanese front, and the forward defense zone we are working to establish, require additional IDF forces.” He noted that the army continues to operate simultaneously on several fronts. These fronts also include the occupied West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Syria.
Deferin added that the army needs “more combat soldiers,” referring to the increasing pressure it faces as its military operations expand and multiple hotspots emerge. These remarks come at a time of heightened debate within Israel regarding the adequacy of troop numbers. The discussion also centers on the army’s ability to sustain fighting on multiple fronts. This unfolds amidst warnings about the impact of human and military attrition on the course of operations.
