New York, USA — Voice of Emirates: The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned of a tragic deterioration. It confirmed that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a very dangerous level. Natural disasters and military escalation combined to increase civilian suffering significantly. Moreover, heavy rains recently caused the flooding of shelters for at least 120 displaced families. Accordingly, field teams are currently assessing the damage to direct urgent support to those affected.
Shelter Bombing Increases the Crisis Complexity
Simultaneously with the harsh winter, 45 shelter centers in Deir al-Balah were hit by airstrikes. This targeting led to extensive destruction of facilities serving hundreds of displaced families. In addition, targeting shelter centers raises great concerns regarding the safety of defenseless civilians. Therefore, the need to secure humanitarian protection sites from direct military strikes is increasing. OCHA indicates that these attacks further complicate the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Challenges Hindering International Relief Efforts
The U.N. office confirmed that relief operations face massive obstacles currently. Strict restrictions impose barriers to bringing in essential materials like plastic sheeting. On the other hand, supply chains have been severely disrupted, preventing aid from reaching those in need. However, humanitarian teams are trying to provide the minimum available shelter materials. Consequently, these efforts remain very limited in front of the daily increasing needs.
In conclusion, the U.N. stressed the necessity of facilitating aid access urgently. The international community demands the opening of sustainable humanitarian corridors to save lives. Thus, the stability of the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dependent on stopping the escalation and the flow of relief.
